Sony Xperia 1 and its tall 4K OLED display launching in the U.S. on July 12th for $950

Remember the Sony Xperia 1? We haven't heard much about this new Sony flagship since its announcement three months ago, but today we're finally learning when the Xperia 1 will launch. The Sony Xperia 1 will arrive in the U.S. on July 12th for $949.99. Folks in Europe who are interested in the Xperia 1 can pre-order their unit starting today. One of the highlight features of the Xperia 1 is its screen. It's got a 6.5-inch 3840x1644 OLED screen with a 21:9 aspect ratio, and Sony says that it's the world's first 4K OLED screen in a smartphone. That extra tall screen is good for watching movies, but Sony also allows you to take advantage of it by running two apps simultaneously. The Sony Xperia 1 is also equipped with a triple rear camera setup that includes a main 12MP snapper with f/1.6 aperture, OIS photo stabilization and hybrid OIS/EIS video stabilization. There's also a 12MP wide angle camera with a 135-degree field of view and a 12MP camera with 2x optical zoom. The flagship Xperia 1 is equipped with a Snapdragon 855 processor, 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage, and there's a microSD card slot if you want more storage. Sony has included an 8MP selfie camera, too, along with a side-mounted fingerprint reader, USB-C port, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, and a 3300mAh battery. The body of the Xperia 1 has Gorilla Glass 6 on its front and back, and its IP65/68 water resistant. After three months of radio silence, it's nice to finally get launch info for the Xperia 1, though it is kind of a bummer that the phone is still a month and a half away from actually hitting store shelves. But if you're excited for that extra tall 4K OLED screen, at least now you know when it'll be in your hands. Sony
